Big Joke List
The badger, an English woodland creature, is not normally an English footballing emblem.
The Queen Mother is the favourite of English Royals, and despite the handicap of unlimited medical resources, paid for by the British taxpayer, she somehow made it to 100 years old in 2000. Which meant she got a congratulatory telegram from her daughter Liz. How quaint! I thought she was rather fonder of the horses (and gin) than football, but whatever...
A surprising number of otherwise sane people actually believed this! But not everyone.
Kevin Keegan never actually stooped as low as jingoism and xenophobia, but you can't control what the tabloid papers write. E.G The S(h)un.
David Beckham (Manchester United & England) suffered at the hands of the
press for admitting he had indulged in a little bedroom clothes swapping
with his wife. Previously called Becks, he was renamed Becky.
He handled it well though. This was nothing compared to the vicious press mauling
he received after being sent off against Argentina in the World Cup in '98.
England v Germany is the most important game to win.
But not big enough...
